NANS applauds Tinubu’s 2023 yuletide transport discount

President Bola Tinubu’s initiative to provide a 50% transport discount during the festive season has garnered praise from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Edugist learnt

The discount, aimed at easing the financial strain on citizens traveling during the yuletide, has sparked calls from NANS for an extension of this generous gesture to students across the nation.

President of NANS, Pedro Obi, expressed gratitude for Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare of Nigerians, recognizing the proactive step taken to alleviate the burdens faced by holiday travelers.

The transport subsidy, announced by the Federal Government through Dele Alake, chairman of the Inter-ministerial Committee on the Presidential Intervention on Public Transportation, covers luxury buses and aims to facilitate smoother travel for citizens.

Obi highlighted the positive impact of the transport discount on reuniting families and enabling people to partake in festive celebrations. However, NANS advocates for further consideration of students’ welfare, urging President Tinubu to extend the generosity by providing free transport to students identifiable with their student identity cards.

Acknowledging the financial challenges students face, especially during the holiday season, Obi emphasized that such an extension would significantly alleviate their financial constraints.

NANS, committed to advocating for the welfare and interests of Nigerian students, eagerly anticipates positive actions that prioritize the well-being of the nation’s students and youths.

Minister of Solid Minerals Development and Chairman of the Inter-ministerial Committee, Dele Alake, revealed that President Tinubu approved a 50% cut in land transportation fares from December 21 to January 4, 2024, covering both Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Zero fare for train transportation across all states during the same period has also been approved.
