The Lagos State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) successfully facilitated the release of a female student from Lagos State University (LASU), who was detained by officers of the Zone 2 Police Command in Lagos under questionable circumstances.

In a statement released on July 22 by the NANS Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Chairman Comrade Abdul-Raheem Abdul-Quadri and Public Relations Officer Comrade Ridwan Ajayi reported that the student was apprehended on July 18 based on what NANS characterized as a “malicious and misleading” petition from her landlord. This action followed the student’s prior lodging of a harassment complaint against the landlord at the Igando Police Division. Rather than addressing her complaint, the landlord allegedly filed a retaliatory report, leading to her detention.

The incident rapidly garnered attention on social media, prompting NANS and the Lagos State University to take swift action in support of the student.
