NANS threatens mass protests against tinubu

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest Zone D has described the economic hardship face by Nigerians as unbearable, saying it requires urgent attention from President Bola Tinubu.

NANS Zone D stated this at
a media briefing in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State on Monday.

The press briefing was used to address the escalating challenges regarding the cost of living experienced by Nigerians.

The students leadership in a statement issued by the NANS Zone D Coordinator, Comrade Alao John, Secretary General, Comrade Sanni Sulaimon and Public Relations Officer, Comrade Oluwadamilola Bamigboye noted that the impact of the country’s economic pressure has been particularly severe to average Nigerian.

The copy of the statement obtained by OSUN DEFENDER reads partly: “The association expressed deep concern over the hardships faced by citizens and issued a strong call to action directed at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently address the issue.

“Nigeria has been grappling with a myriad of economic challenges, including inflation, unemployment, and a weakening currency, which have significantly contributed to the rising cost of living across the nation. The impact of these economic pressures has been particularly severe on the average Nigerian, making it increasingly difficult to afford basic necessities such as food, shelter, and healthcare.

“During the media briefing, NANS Southwest Zone D highlighted several pressing issues related to the cost of living crisis:

“The association emphasized the unbearable economic hardship faced by Nigerians as a result of the soaring cost of living. Many families are struggling to make ends meet, with stagnant wages and rising prices pushing them further into poverty.

“NANS Southwest Zone D issued a direct appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and address the worsening situation. As the leader of the nation, President Tinubu is urged to prioritize the welfare of Nigerian citizens and take decisive action to alleviate their suffering.

“In a bold move, the association issued a 14-day ultimatum for President Tinubu to respond to their demands and implement concrete measures to tackle the cost of living crisis. Failure to do so would result in mass protests, with NANS Southwest Zone D vowing to mobilize students and citizens to take to the streets in large numbers.

“NANS Southwest Zone D called upon all relevant stakeholders, including government officials, policymakers, and civil society organizations, to join hands in addressing the urgent needs of the Nigerian people. The association emphasized the importance of swift and decisive action to mitigate the impact of the cost of living crisis and restore hope and dignity to millions of struggling Nigerians.

“The media briefing held by NANS Southwest Zone D served as a clarion call for urgent action to address the escalating cost of living in Nigeria. With a clear ultimatum issued to President Tinubu and a commitment to mobilize mass protests if necessary, the association has signaled its determination to hold government accountable and advocate for the welfare of the Nigerian people. It is now incumbent upon the authorities to heed these calls and take meaningful steps to alleviate the suffering of the populace.”
