Nasarawa: Govt Provide Free Education, Accommodation for Disabled Students

In a bid to ensure equal access to quailty education in his state, Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Sule, has declared free education for all physically challenged students in the state-owned higher institutions.

This was disclosed on Tuesday 15th October,2019 in A kwanza, by the Provost of the state College of Education, Akwanga, Dr. Rebecca Isaac Umaru, when she received a team from the office of the Directorate of Strategic Communication and Press Affairs, Office of the Governor, who were on Disability Advocacy Tour to the institution.

According to the provost, school fees of disabled students in the state-owned tertiary institutions have been declared free by Governor Sule.

She continued that the institution in its reciprocity of the benevolence of the state governor had declared that all excursion exercises embarked by the disabled students in the institution would be free.

Dr. Umaru however appealed to the state government to assist the college with 11 permanent staff that will be scheduled for taking care of the disabled students in the institution.

She also stated that the disabled students had been assured enough accommodation, mobility and writing materials to make academic activities easier for them.

Also, the leader of the disability advocacy tour and Personal Assistant to Governor Sule on disabilities/social media, Hamza Mammam Awe, assured the disabled students of the governor’s attention to their plights.

He said: “I want to assure you that the Sule’s administration is giving us a sense of belonging, hence our reason to embark on this advocacy visit to all tertiary institutions in the state, to meet and rub minds with you in order to lessen the hardship you face during your studies.”
