NASS urges swift upgrades as committee unveils gaps in NYSC camp facilities in Niger

The House of Representatives Committee on Youths and Development, led by Martins Esin, advocates for immediate improvements at the NYSC orientation camp in Niger.

The committee, during its visit, highlighted various concerns in the camp’s infrastructure, specifically pointing out deficiencies in the male hostel, such as the need for additional beddings.

Esin emphasised the importance of creating a conducive environment for corps members to ensure optimal service to the nation.

Governor Umaru Bago has pledged intervention in response to the Committee’s call, with a slated commencement date set for January 2024.

Esin assured that the National Assembly is committed to the well-being of the NYSC, recognizing its pivotal role in promoting national unity and integration.

Expressing the National Assembly’s dedication, Esin conveyed Speaker Tajudeen Abbas’s resolve to oversee NYSC activities and provide necessary support for enhanced performance.

He advised corps members to remain vigilant, acknowledging the security challenges they face.

NYSC Coordinator in Niger, Olayinka Abdulwahab, reported that 1,495 corps members, including those redeployed from FCT, were registered for the 2023 Batch C, Stream 1 orientation course in Niger.

Despite exhibiting discipline, she highlighted challenges, including a shortage of camp facilities, erosion control issues, and inadequate boreholes for water supply.

This call for action by the House of Representatives underscores the significance of investing in the NYSC infrastructure to ensure a positive experience for corps members during their service to the nation.
