The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, has commended lecturers of the institution and teachers across Nigeria for their immense contributions to national development and societal transformation.
In a statement issued in celebration of World Teachers’ Day 2025, Senator Ndoma-Egba described teachers as the “custodians of knowledge, stewards of character, and architects of a future that is yet to be built.”
“On this World Teachers’ Day, I extend my deepest respect to the faculty of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) and, by extension, to teachers everywhere. You are the custodians of knowledge, the stewards of character, and the architects of a future that is yet to be built. Our society rests on the strength of your intellect, your labour, and your sacrifice,” he said.
Ndoma-Egba, a former Senate Leader and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), reflected on the deeper purpose of education, emphasizing that teaching transcends the boundaries of lectures and examinations.
“Education, at its truest, extends beyond the delivery of lectures, the passing of examinations, or the awarding of certificates. It is the deliberate cultivation of discipline, the transmission of values, and the formation of vision. It establishes purpose, strengthens commitment to service, and prepares leaders who are not passive inheritors of society but active contributors to its advancement,” he stated.
The FUOYE Pro-Chancellor explained that true education equips learners to approach challenges with clarity and courage, offering solutions that are both sustainable and socially relevant. He described every lecture, research supervision, and mentorship effort as “a strategic investment in human capital and national progress.”
Speaking on the 2025 World Teachers’ Day theme, “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession,” Ndoma-Egba highlighted the importance of teamwork and knowledge-sharing among educators.
“This year’s theme calls us to recognise that education thrives in community. Knowledge expands when shared, innovation advances through co-operation, and progress is secured only when educators work in concert across disciplines, institutions, and borders. Collaboration is the force that multiplies impact, ensuring that education remains resilient, equitable, and inclusive,” he said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing FUOYE’s vision as a university of global repute — a place where scholarship produces wisdom, innovation drives growth, and leadership is grounded in integrity.
“Together, we must shape FUOYE into a university of global standing: an institution where knowledge produces wisdom, where a commitment to advancing society drives our research and innovation, and where leadership is defined by integrity and character,” Ndoma-Egba affirmed.
Acknowledging the challenges teachers face, he praised their dedication despite limited recognition and rewards.
“I am mindful that the responsibility you carry is weighty, often demanding sacrifice without immediate recognition. Yet it is in your lecture halls, laboratories, libraries, and offices that the future is created,” he noted.
He assured FUOYE’s faculty of his unwavering support for their professional growth and welfare, pledging to sustain an enabling environment for teaching excellence.
“As Pro-Chancellor, I affirm that your work is not invisible. It is valued, indispensable, and the true measure of our institutional strength. I remain committed to working with the University leadership to build and sustain an environment where educators can thrive, professional growth is encouraged, contributions are honoured, and excellence is the standard,” he said.
Concluding his message, Senator Ndoma-Egba celebrated the resilience, brilliance, and devotion of teachers everywhere, noting that their work continues to shape destinies and build societies.
“Once again, I celebrate your resilience, your brilliance, and your devotion to the noble calling of teaching. May your efforts continue to transform lives, elevate scholarship, and bring pride to our university, our nation, and the wider world,” he said.
The statement by Ndoma-Egba reiterates FUOYE’s recognition of educators as critical drivers of Nigeria’s human capital development and aligns with the global call to elevate the teaching profession as a cornerstone of sustainable national progress.
