The National Examinations Council, NECO, has acquired a high-performance Optical Mark Recognition, OMR, scanner to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and security of its examination processes.
Speaking at the inauguration of the newly installed Scantron Insight 1500c machine at the ICT Department in Minna on Thursday, NECO Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, said the acquisition reflects the council’s commitment to enhancing the speed and reliability of examination procedures.
“With this new addition, we will significantly enhance our data processing capabilities, ensuring faster and more accurate results for millions of candidates across the world,” Wushishi stated.
The advanced scanner, which cost approximately N500 million, can process over 15,000 OMR sheets per hour and 250 sheets per minute while simultaneously scanning and scoring scripts.
The Registrar stated that integrating cutting-edge technology is part of NECO’s broader strategy to modernize its operations and maintain the credibility of its examinations.
The Director of the ICT Department, Mr. Goddy Usioboh, pointed out that the acquisition aligns with NECO’s vision of providing world-class examination services while safeguarding the integrity of its assessments.
Mr. Tom Harry, the technical adviser from Scantron Company in Minnesota, USA, commended the dedication of NECO’s ICT staff during the training on operating the new machine.
