Senator Ned Nwoko has announced a landmark educational and sports development initiative, awarding full scholarships to 90 exceptional students from Delta North to study at the Sports University of Nigeria — the first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa.

In a weekend statement, the lawmaker representing Delta North said:

“I believe that true development comes when we invest in the minds and talents of our young people.

I am proud to announce the award of full scholarships to 90 exceptional students, 10 from each of our nine local government areas, to study at the Sports University of Nigeria in Idumuje-Ugboko.

This is more than financial assistance; it is an investment in a generation that will combine academic excellence with athletic brilliance. By nurturing scholar-athletes, we are building ambassadors who will represent Delta North and Nigeria with pride, both in the classroom and on the field of play.”

The beneficiaries will receive 100 per cent tuition-free education for four years, train in world-class sports facilities, and have access to modern infrastructure, including 24-hour electricity, high-speed internet, safe campus accommodation, and state-of-the-art sporting complexes.

Senator Nwoko, who founded the Sports University, highlighted its unique offerings — fully accredited programmes spanning mass communication, management and social sciences, sports science and allied health sciences, and science architecture.

Admission into the scholarship programme, he stressed, requires discipline, focus, and proven talent.

“Beneficiaries must have strong academic records and demonstrable skill in at least one sport,” he said. “The first set of scholarship awardees will resume this academic session, ready to begin a journey that will prepare them for global opportunities. I remain committed to creating pathways for our youth to dream bigger, achieve more, and redefine what is possible.”
