The North East Development Commission (NEDC), in partnership with the Yobe State Government, has launched a one-week training programme for 200 teachers aimed at rebuilding and improving the education system in the state, which has been severely affected by years of conflict and insurgency.
The training, held at the Federal College of Education (Technical) in Potiskum, focuses on enhancing teaching skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Agriculture (STEMA), as well as effective classroom pedagogies for both teachers and school administrators. Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of NEDC, Mohammed Alkali, represented by the Yobe State Coordinator, Ali Ibrahim Abbas, said the initiative is designed to help educators adopt practical and innovative strategies that promote problem-solving and active learning.
“We want to enhance teachers’ capacity towards impacting quality knowledge to our students and pupils as NEDC shall continue to complement the efforts of the State Government,” he said.
Also addressing the participants, Professor Abba Idris Adam, Yobe State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, praised the NEDC’s commitment to educational development. He urged teachers to fully embrace modern instructional tools that encourage inclusiveness and critical thinking in their classrooms.
The workshop, facilitated by Spider Network Consultancy Services, includes hands-on sessions and group discussions and continues throughout the week. Participants expressed appreciation for the training, describing it as timely and impactful for improving teaching standards across the state.
