The Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin Ekiti, Prof. Gbenga Aribisala, has promised that the institution will prioritise research to produce competent graduates who will be job creators and problem solvers.

This is as he disclosed that admission for the first academic calendar of the institution will begin in September in four different faculties.

The Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin Ekiti, was established on February 20, 2025, following the signing into law of the bill proposing its creation by President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking with journalists at Iyin Ekiti on Monday, Aribisala said the new university would ensure a quality academic standard by ensuring that staff recruitment followed due process.

He added that the direction was in recognition of the fact that only competent staff could position the institution for global reputation.

“Admission for the first academic calendar will begin in September this year in four different faculties – Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences; Faculty of Engineering and Environmental Sciences; Faculty of Computer and Information Technology with courses like Mechatronics, Data Science, Artificial intelligence, Cybercrime, security and information technology.

“University is a community of scholars. The management will prioritise the recruitment of competent academic and non-academic staff who have a passion for academic research works that would win grants, attract global attention, be highly respectful, neat and always ready to assist students and anyone, when the need arises.

“This school cannot employ or engage workers who would be idle or those who will bring the name of the school to disrepute. The university is to stand as a source of building human resources for the advancement of societal development,” he said.

Speaking further, Aribisala said that advertisement and every process would be in line with the federal character principles to ensure that only staff members with a passion for excellence are engaged.

This, he said, is to promote a meaningful academic environment.

He said, “Research work would be prioritised to ensure that the university turns out students who will be job creators and not job seekers. We are passionate about building a university that is ICT driven, transparent and with integrity.”

The VC said that the newly established university would admit only students who met the standard of admission processes as specified by the regulating bodies and the university’s principles.

He said that work was almost completed on the university’s website to ease access to relevant information concerning the institution.

He said measures had been put in place to ensure potable water and stable electricity supply across the university community through partnership with various groups, organisations and individuals, without relying solely on electricity distribution companies.

“All the facilities that we are using now were donated by the community, and I sincerely appreciate our Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele; the Oluyin of Iyin Ekiti, Oba Adeola Ajakaye; and the good people of Iyin Ekiti for their sense of hospitality, which has made commencement of the academic programme easy,” the VC said.
