The Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Kontagora, Prof. Francis Faduyile, has declared that the institution remains safe and conducive for learning despite rising security challenges in parts of the country.

Speaking during a media briefing in Kontagora on the appointment of the university’s first substantive Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Farouk Rasheed Haruna, Faduyile said the governing council has taken proactive steps to ensure the safety of both staff and students.

“I am from Ondo State and I have been to Kontagora many times in the course of my being chairman of the governing council. We have people from different parts of the country and we have been going and coming back. I can tell you for a fact that security issues are a general issue in this country,” he stated.

He admitted that while there are occasional security concerns, the university has remained peaceful.
“Overall, we pray that God will not allow us to get into that. I can tell you that going to Kontagora is not as risky as people make it sound. Any of the students, wherever they come from, are well protected and will have the best of learning opportunities,” he said.

The Pro-Chancellor went further to describe the Federal University of Education, Kontagora, as one of the most academically equipped institutions in Niger State.

“You need to come to the university, and you will be amazed at the facilities we have there. The university is one of those with the highest number of Ph.D. lecturers — both trained in Nigeria and abroad. So, all students are encouraged to come.

You’ll find the place loveable, and they will get the best,” Faduyile assured.

Announcing the appointment, he said Haruna’s emergence followed a rigorous selection process conducted by the governing council.

“We called this meeting because of one important decision that we made today, which is actually the fifth of this first governing council of the university.

A decision was made about filling the vacant position of our vice chancellor. Today, I am happy to inform the public and the Kontagora community and Niger State that Prof. Farouk Rasheed Haruna has been appointed as the first substantive vice chancellor of the Federal University of Education Kontagora,” Faduyile stated.

He noted that Prof. Haruna, who had previously served as acting Vice-Chancellor, Provost, and Chairman of the Committee of Provosts, is expected to assume duty officially on November 4, 2025.

Established in 2021 following an Act of the National Assembly that upgraded the former Federal College of Education, Kontagora, the university began full academic operations in March 2025, and continues to expand its infrastructure and academic offerings.
