Nigeria has once again affirmed its dedication to transforming foundational learning, as the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, led the nation’s delegation to the World Bank’s “Leadership for Progress in Foundational Learning” (LEAP 2025) Global Summit, held in Washington D.C., United States, from June 24 to 27, 2025.
The summit brought together global leaders to chart a progressive course for foundational education reforms across developing countries.
Representing Nigeria, Professor Ahmad led critical discussions on strategies to enhance foundational learning through data-driven instruction, improved teaching quality, and effective system leadership.
“This summit was a decisive moment for Nigeria to showcase how committed leadership and smart data can shift learning outcomes,” Professor Ahmad said.
“We are committed to scalable reforms that make a real difference for our children.”
She noted that the reform initiative is already being piloted in public primary schools under the supervision of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), with a strong focus on accountability and measurable impact.
During the summit, Professor Ahmad reiterated Nigeria’s alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which seeks to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all. She emphasized Nigeria’s readiness to adopt technology in classrooms, enhance instructional leadership, and scale successful reforms nationwide.
Nigeria’s delegation also engaged in fruitful exchanges with education reform leaders from Kenya, Sierra Leone, and Bangladesh, fostering international cooperation and the exchange of best practices.
“We’re building a system where teachers are empowered, data drives decisions, and no child is left behind,” the Minister concluded.
The summit reinforced Nigeria’s reputation as a reform-driven nation in education, committed to tangible improvements in learning outcomes.
