Bob Chikwem Amadi, a Nigerian medical student at the American International University in Saint Lucia, has described his meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Saint Lucian Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre as a profoundly inspiring moment.

Amadi, a native of Rivers State, is currently preparing for the clinical phase of his medical training. He has lived in Saint Lucia for ten years and recently completed the four-year basic phase of his medical education.

Alongside his academic journey, he works part-time as a talent and brand manager with a local catering and entertainment firm.

During the second day of President Tinubu’s state visit to Saint Lucia, Amadi was part of the service team invited to the Prime Minister’s official residence for a courtesy event. It was there that the Prime Minister’s staff brought his nationality to the attention of Prime Minister Pierre.

At the start of official talks, Pierre introduced Amadi to President Tinubu, highlighting him as a young Nigerian living and studying on the island.

President Tinubu paused to engage the young man, asking about his name, background and general well-being.

The president also extended his best wishes for Amadi’s studies and future ambitions in Saint Lucia. Amadi was later invited to join both leaders for a group photograph.

Reflecting on the encounter, Amadi expressed deep appreciation and joy: “This is an inspiring moment for me. Saint Lucia is an amazing island. I will describe it as a wonderful place. They are a very contented society and things are relatively calm.”

He also touched on the potential for stronger connections between Nigeria and Saint Lucia:

“We have always hoped that there are many opportunities between Saint Lucia and Nigeria. We share similar food crops and culture, and the connection is deep.”
