An 18-year-old Nigerian student, Abiola Abidoye, has etched his name into the record books after achieving the highest A-Level grade in law across the United Kingdom.

Studying at One Sixth Form College in Ipswich, Abidoye secured an outstanding set of results—A grades in mathematics, further mathematics, law, and physics*. His crowning achievement came in law, where he scored an exceptional 224 out of 240 marks across three papers, earning him the highest mark nationwide.

Despite his remarkable performance, Abidoye confessed that law was not initially his strongest subject.

“I am really pleased. Maths and physics are my strong suit, but I did law because it’s my passion. I’m very passionate about different types of law—even ones we didn’t study, like human rights. It was just a fun lesson I wanted to do, and I wasn’t expecting to do so well.”

The teenager admitted he was stunned when the news broke that he had attained the country’s best law result.

“I was very surprised… I saw that result before my others, and I was already nervous waiting for them. I put in an immense amount of work, staying up to ungodly hours. I put a lot of pressure on myself, but I’m happy with the outcome.”

He went on to credit his teachers for their invaluable support.

“The teachers at One Sixth Form College were wonderful and helped me a lot.”

Looking ahead, Abidoye plans to study mathematics at university, with aspirations of building a career in banking or finance.

His story has inspired many within the Nigerian and UK academic communities, standing as a testament to resilience, passion, and hard work.
