Nigerian universities to integrate students evacuated from Sudan — JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has pledged to ensure that Nigerian students who were evacuated from war-torn Sudan are integrated into the nation’s universities.

This was disclosed by the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, during a meeting with the head of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in Abuja on Tuesday.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Oloyede expressed his empathy for the students and praised NIDCOM for their effective handling of the evacuation.

He assured that JAMB would provide the necessary infrastructure and enablement to enable the students to continue their academic programs in Nigerian universities.

However, Oloyede urged the students to comply with the stipulated procedures for transferring to Nigerian universities to ensure that their academic programs are seamless.

He emphasised that Nigerian universities require a minimum of two years stay and residency, and that the procedure must be done legitimately and properly with the cooperation of the National Universities Commission and the individual institution.

The chairman of NIDCOM, Dabiri-Erewa, revealed that as of Tuesday, 1,730 Nigerians had been evacuated from Sudan, the majority of whom are students eager to continue their education in Nigeria while waiting for the war to end.

She assured that the necessary procedures would be followed to integrate the affected students into Nigerian schools and encouraged them to follow the process as stipulated by JAMB to avoid any complications.
