The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has urged Corps Members to avoid shortcuts in their pursuit of success, emphasizing the importance of patience, diligence, and perseverance.
Addressing the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream Two Corps Members at the NYSC Plateau State Temporary Orientation Camp in Doi-Du, Jos, and their counterparts in Bauchi State Orientation Camp in Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area, General Ahmed underscored the need for hard work and dedication in achieving life ambitions.
“Success in life requires patience, diligence, and perseverance. Do not fall for the temptation of shortcuts. Instead, embrace the process and put in the necessary effort to reach your goals,” he advised.
The NYSC boss also encouraged Corps Members to take full advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme during their orientation camp. He noted that acquiring vocational skills would not only make them financially independent but also position them as future employers of labour.
Furthermore, he urged them to remain committed to the post-camp training of the Entrepreneurship Development programme, stressing that it provides additional skills necessary for self-reliance and career development.
General Ahmed also highlighted the crucial role of Corps Members in national unity and development, charging them to engage with their host communities positively.
“Use this service year to foster national unity and integration. Study your host environments, make a positive impact, and serve your fatherland meritoriously,” he admonished.
In his report to the Director General, NYSC Plateau State Coordinator, Mr. Jonathan Yavala, stated that a total of 1,957 Corps Members—comprising 982 males and 975 females—had been registered in the state and had successfully adapted to camp life. Similarly, Bauchi State Coordinator, Mrs. Rifkatu Daniel, confirmed the registration of 1,641 Corps Members, consisting of 761 males and 880 females.
Both officials lauded the Corps Members for their patriotism, diligence, and enthusiasm in embracing the objectives of the NYSC Orientation Course.
