NOUN admission seekers now required to register with JAMB

Individuals aspiring to gain admission into the Nigerian Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and other open distance learning centers are now mandated to register through the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB).

This new requirement, which was announced in an advisory released by JAMB, also stipulates that candidates must register with their unique National Identification Number (NIN).

The move aims to curb the activities of fraudulent individuals who attempt to compromise candidates’ records through dubious registration channels. JAMB has promised to make the registration process as seamless as possible, in compliance with its enabling act.

According to the advisory, all applicants who wish to study in Nigerian tertiary institutions, regardless of whether the mode of study is regular or non-regular, must provide their NIN while registering for any programme of study.

This includes candidates in the non-regular category, such as those pursuing NOUN, distance learning, part-time, and sandwich programs.

To register with JAMB, prospective candidates in the non-regular category are required to create a profile code. They can do this by sending their NIN through their unique phone number to either of the Board’s sort codes (55019 or 66019). Additionally, previous candidates in the non-regular programs who have not integrated their NIN or unique phone number on the Board’s platform will need to create a profile using their respective NINs to access any of the services provided by the Board.

JAMB has assured that it will maintain flexibility in the registration process by keeping its platform available throughout the year. Candidates falling under the non-regular category are expected to apply through JAMB before approaching their preferred institutions to process their admission using their respective JAMB registration numbers. They will also be required to pay a processing fee determined by their chosen institutions.

With this new requirement, the aim is to ensure a more secure and efficient admission process for NOUN and other open distance learning centers in Nigeria.
