NUC accreditation team visits Ekiti varsity, reaffirms commitment to quality education standards

The Nigerian University Commission (NUC) has commenced an accreditation exercise at Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI) in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

This initiative underscores the NUC’s dedication to maintaining international benchmarks for 21st-century, knowledge-driven education and fostering intellectual growth across Nigerian universities.

During the opening ceremony of the accreditation exercise, which covers 45 academic programs, Anthonia Bawa, NUC Deputy Director of Accounts and Finance, highlighted the commission’s unwavering commitment to enforcing minimum academic standards.

“Our goal is not to witch-hunt but to ensure that our universities provide the quality of education that meets global standards,” Bawa remarked.

She emphasized that the accreditation process is designed to verify the quality of both physical facilities and human resources available for new programs.

“We are pleased that Nigerian universities are producing graduates who can compete favorably with their counterparts globally,” Bawa added, reflecting on the commission’s achievements in enhancing the quality of tertiary education in Nigeria.

Bawa also lauded the management of BOUESTI for their enthusiastic reception of the NUC team, assuring that the delegation would conduct the exercise with the utmost professionalism.

“The accreditation is necessary to holistically evaluate proposed programmes and ensure that they meet global benchmarks for quality academic standards,” she noted.

BOUESTI Vice Chancellor, Professor Olufemi Adeoluwa, expressed the university’s full cooperation and support for the NUC delegation. He conveyed optimism that the 45 academic programmes under review would receive accreditation, stating that the university management had diligently worked to meet the NUC’s requirements.

“The management has done its best to ensure that all criteria set by the NUC are met. We are confident that our programs will be accredited,” Adeoluwa affirmed.
