The National Universities Commission has granted approval to Iconic Open University, a private institution based in Sokoto, to commence a new set of postgraduate programmes.

This was disclosed on Sunday in a statement signed by the university’s Registrar, Dr Muhammad Sanusi, who described the development as a major boost for open and distance learning in Nigeria.

The newly approved programmes include Master of Business Administration, Master of Public Administration, Master of Public Health, Master of Information Technology, Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health, and Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology.

Sanusi added that other approved postgraduate courses include the Master of International Relations and Diplomacy, and the Master of Crime Management and Security Studies, which he said were designed to meet the growing demand for expertise in governance, security, and global affairs.

“At the undergraduate level, NUC has also approved B.Ed. in Educational Management and the Bachelor of Environmental Health Science (B.EHS), further expanding the institution’s commitment to diverse academic disciplines,” he stated.

According to him, Iconic Open University has already positioned itself as one of the leading providers of open and distance education in Nigeria, offering a broad spectrum of programmes in health sciences, technology, management, and the humanities.

Sanusi described the NUC’s latest approval as a milestone in the university’s mission to provide accessible and quality education, urging prospective students to visit the university’s website for details on admissions.

“The NUC’s approval underscores the university’s compliance with rigorous academic standards, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped for the evolving demands of the workforce,” he added.
