NUT Lagos Mainland celebrates World Teachers’ Day

Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Lagos Mainland has celebrated the World Teachers’ Day at African Princess Primary School, Abule Oja. Laagbe Abdullahi, chairman of NUT Lagos Mainland branch, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the significant impact teachers on Lagos mainland have made, setting an inspiring example for educators nationwide.

During his speech, he highlighted this year’s theme, “The teachers we need for the education we want: The global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage.” Emphasising the critical need for more teachers globally, he stressed the importance of addressing the teacher shortage crisis to ensure a brighter future for education.

A moment of pride was shared as the Chairman spotlighted Peace Salamatu Sule, PhD, a dedicated teacher from Akoka Junior High School, who had achieved a remarkable feat by being shortlisted as one of the world’s global teachers. Her achievement served as a testament to the exceptional dedication and talent of teachers within the region.

The chairman urged all teachers to prepare themselves for the challenges ahead, emphasising the significance of maintaining a solution-driven mindset in all aspects of their profession. He underscored the role of constant learning and adaptability in shaping the future of education.

Expressing gratitude, the NUT chairman acknowledged the collective effort of various stakeholders, including the Tutor General, the Education Secretary, the Association of Principals of Secondary Schools, and, most importantly, all mainland teachers. He recognised their collaborative efforts in nurturing a supportive and thriving educational environment.

Amidst the speeches and acknowledgments, the celebration transformed into a lively carnival. Teachers and attendees indulged in a joyous atmosphere by sharing good will messages, feasting and camaraderie.

Adenekan Olusola Olabisi, the chairman Lagos Mainland, All Nigeria’s congress of Principals secondary schools has challenged teachers by reminding them that teachers must keep up with their passion and they must not give up but remain an example for all.

The immediate past chairman of NUT Lagos state wing, Otunba Adesina Adedoyin, joined others in appreciating all the teachers of the mainland. He acknowledged that the legacy is very much followed.

The teachers shared that teachers must cover up for the inadequacies of others and they must be role models on all that they do.

It was more than just an occasion to dine and revel; it was a heartfelt celebration of the invaluable contributions made by teachers, reminding everyone of the dedication and passion that fuels the noble profession.

The event served as a poignant reminder of the pivotal role teachers play in shaping the future generations and a veritable means for teachers to unwind.

As the festivities continued, the resounding message echoed: teachers are not just educators; they are architects of a better tomorrow, inspiring minds and shaping destinies with their unwavering commitment and enthusiasm.
