NYSC uncovers fraud at University of Calabar

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced the withdrawal of discharge certificates for 99 graduates from the University of Calabar.

This decisive action stems from findings of illegal mobilization for national service during the 2021, 2022, and 2023 service years.

In an official statement released by Eddy Megwa, the Director of Press and Public Relations for NYSC, the organization reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining the integrity of the national service programme. The statement highlighted that the mobilization of these graduates was conducted without proper qualifications, underscoring the NYSC’s commitment to recognizing only eligible individuals for service.

The NYSC’s statement read: “This is to inform members of the public that the underlisted Ninety-Nine (99) persons and two (2) others on exemption were fraudulently mobilized by the University of Calabar for National Service during the 2021, 2022, and 2023 NYSC Service Years.”

The organization stressed the importance of ensuring that both locally and foreign-trained Nigerian youths, particularly those allegedly graduating from unaccredited universities, are not recognized in the service. The statement continued, “Management of National Youth Service Corps hereby restates its strong commitment to ensuring that unqualified persons are not issued with NYSC Certificates of National Service.”

As a result of this fraudulent mobilization, the NYSC Management has invalidated the Certificates of National Service for those involved, urging the public to take note of this announcement. The corps employers, government ministries, departments, agencies, corporate entities, and other stakeholders are encouraged to verify the authenticity of any NYSC certificates presented to them.

The NYSC has advised the public to confirm the legitimacy of Certificates of National Service, Exemption, and Exclusion Letters with the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja, ensuring that only qualified individuals are recognized for national service.
