Despite the overwhelming support from thousands of fellow students, artists, and university officials, her triumph came at a cost, leading to her hospitalisation.
The marathon commenced on a Friday afternoon at the Student Union Building Motor park on the university campus, with enthusiastic students rallying around her.
As the clock ticked past midnight on Monday, Enitan surpassed her initial goal of 50 hours, putting her name forward for the Guinness World Record for the longest hand wash-a-thon.
However, the celebration was cut short as Enitan’s hands exhibited visible signs of strain, turning white and wrinkled due to the prolonged exposure to water and soap.
The toll on her health prompted immediate action, with the university’s ambulance transporting her to the institution’s clinic for a thorough medical examination.
In a poignant moment, a video circulating on social media captured Enitan lying on a hospital bed, highlighting the physical toll of her extraordinary feat.
Despite the challenges, she expressed fulfillment at achieving her goal in the presence of her mother, Omogbolabo Afolake, who stood by her side throughout the marathon.
