The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, on Wednesday, said the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun remains committed to enhancing access to quality education across the state.
Speaking at a press briefing on the ministry’s achievements, Arigbabu disclosed that over 1,474 classrooms have been constructed and rehabilitated statewide, with an additional 332 projects currently ongoing.
“The government has also supplied 8,800 two-seater desks and benches for public primary schools, 3,900 two-seater desks and benches for junior secondary schools, and 2,395 pieces of teachers’ furniture for both primary and junior secondary schools,” he said.
Arigbabu noted that the state has recruited 3,000 teachers to address staffing gaps, while the abolition of fees in primary and secondary schools has significantly boosted enrolment and reduced the number of out-of-school children.
Highlighting efforts to improve technical education, he revealed that all eight government-owned technical colleges are undergoing rehabilitation to transform them into world-class vocational training centers.
“The government has also ensured the regular payment of monthly subventions to all state-owned tertiary institutions and approved N200 million as an annual intervention fund for infrastructural development in institutions not benefiting from TETFund support,” Arigbabu added.
In a move to modernize the learning environment, the commissioner announced the commencement of smart classroom construction in secondary schools across the state’s 20 local government areas.
“These smart classrooms are designed to create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning. Additionally, we are constructing 12 mega classrooms, three in each of the state’s four divisions, with the capacity to accommodate 900 learners to help decongest classrooms,” he said.
Arigbabu explained that 72 designated secondary schools, including flagship institutions, are benefiting from the first phase of the smart classroom project.
These schools will be equipped with modern teaching aids to enhance the learning experience.
