An indigene of Ogun State, Dr. Matthew Abiodun, emerged as the recipient of two doctoral awards at Covenant University’s 18th Convocation.

A Monday statement noted that Abiodun was honoured as the Best Graduating Doctoral Degree Student in Mechanical Engineering and also as the Best Graduating Doctoral Degree Student in the entire College of Engineering.

The statement said the dual recognition underscored Abiodun’s outstanding scholarly contributions and research impact following a comprehensive assessment process that recognised both innovation and scholarly distinction.

His PhD research focused on the development of fuel nano-additives derived from agro-waste, a groundbreaking innovation aimed at enhancing combustion efficiency, reducing harmful emissions, and promoting a sustainable fuel economy and energy future. His work stood at the intersection of engineering ingenuity and environmental consciousness.

“His scholarly contribution has gained international traction. The quality and relevance of his research have earned him more than 12 publications in reputable high-impact journals, with over 70 academic citations —a growing testament to the influence of his work in the global engineering and energy research community.

“With a professional career that spans over a decade, primarily in the oil and gas sector, Abiodun brings a unique blend of industrial experience and academic depth. He has collaborated with key industry stakeholders, translating research into real-world energy solutions,” the statement said.
