Opay Digital Services Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lagos State University (LASU) to sponsor twenty students with scholarships worth ₦60 million over the next ten years.
The partnership, facilitated by the LASU Centre for the Actualisation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (LASU-SDG) in collaboration with the Lagos State University Directorate of Advancement (LASUDA), was officially sealed on Monday, October 13, 2025, at the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Director of LASU-SDG, Professor Tayo Ajayi, described the partnership as a testament to the university’s commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those relating to quality education and youth empowerment.
In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, commended Opay for the gesture, noting that the initiative will provide financial relief and encourage academic excellence among students. She described the scholarship as a reflection of Opay’s strong corporate social responsibility and commitment to educational development in Nigeria.
Opay’s Chief Executive Officer, Elizabeth Wang, expressed delight at partnering with LASU, explaining that the company’s scholarship scheme, which began in 2018, aims to make education more accessible while inspiring students to achieve excellence. She announced that twenty students will benefit annually for the next decade and disclosed plans to create internship and employment opportunities for LASU students within the company.
The MoU was formally signed by Professor Olatunji-Bello and Elizabeth Wang, alongside other university officials, including the Registrar, Mr Emmanuel Fanu, and members of LASU management. The ceremony, which concluded with a vote of thanks from the Registrar, marked the beginning of a decade-long collaboration dedicated to advancing education, innovation, and youth development in Nigeria.
