OSPOLY: Osun deputy governor assures protesting students of resumption

In a pivotal moment for the protesting students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi and Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Prince Adewale Egbedun pledged their commitment to resolving the ongoing issues that have led to the suspension of academic activities. The assurance came during separate addresses to the protesting students on Thursday, August 10, 2023.

Addressing the students at the front of the Osun State Government Secretariat, Adewusi acknowledged the students’ right to express their concerns through a peaceful protest. He assured them that the institution would reopen on Monday and, if it failed to do so, he would accept responsibility for the lapse.

“The students have done the right thing by demanding their rights through a peaceful protest,” Adewusi stated. “I promise to take immediate action to resolve the issues and ensure the prompt reopening of the institution for academic activities.”

Meanwhile, inside the Osun State House of Assembly, Egbedun echoed a similar sentiment during his address to the protesting students. He expressed his commitment to swiftly intervening in the matter and finding lasting solutions that would ensure the resumption of classes.

“I’m assuring you, we are going to seek this today,” Egbedun declared. “I’m promising you a lasting solution.”

Reacting to the assurances given by the Deputy Governor and the Speaker, Azeez Tajudeen Adebayo, the president of the Students Union Government (SUG) of Osun State Polytechnic Iree, expressed hope and reliance on their commitments.

“The speaker had spoken, we are going to hold him accountable for what he has said,” Adebayo affirmed, signifying the students’ trust in the officials’ promises.

The promises made by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi and Speaker RT. Hon. Prince Adewale Egbedun has injected a sense of optimism among the students of Osun State Polytechnic. With their proactive approach and assurances, the students eagerly await Monday’s reopening, hopeful that their academic pursuits will soon regain momentum.
