Ospoly students’ petition state gov’t over deplorable campus entrance road

On Friday, the Students Union Government (SUG) of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, has written a public letter to the Government of Osun State, requesting urgent action to repair the road leading to their campus.

The letter, signed by the Union General Secretary, Oluyeye Kayode Alade, and the Union President, Azeez Tajudeen Adebayo, highlighted the deplorable state of the road, which has caused numerous accidents and put the lives of students, staff, and visitors at risk.

The SUG expressed their concerns about the potholes, uneven surface, and poorly marked lanes on the road, which have made it dangerous for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.

They also mentioned the impact of the road’s condition on the academic community, including difficulties in commuting to and from the campus, decreased productivity, and negative effects on academic performance.

The letter urged the Government of Osun State to prioritise the repair of the road leading to the campus, stating that it is a major artery for the academic community, and its repair will improve the safety and well-being of all those who use it.

The SUG also noted that fixing the road would enhance the government’s reputation as one committed to the welfare of its citizens.

Various officials claiming to be close to the Government of Osun State responded to the letter, assuring the SUG that their request would be duly attended to.

The letter reads in part;

“On behalf of the Students Union Government (SUG) of Osun State Polytechnic Iree, we are writing to request urgent action to fix the spoilt and deadly road that leads to our campus. As you are aware, the road has been in a deplorable state for a long time, causing numerous accidents and putting the lives of students, staff, and visitors at risk.”

“The road leading to our campus has become a major concern for the entire academic community. The potholes, uneven surface, and poorly marked lanes have made the road dangerous for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. We have received reports of accidents on this road, and unfortunately, some of them have resulted in fatalities. These accidents have not only caused physical harm to members of our community, but they have also created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among students, staff, and visitors.”

“Furthermore, the state of the road has made commuting to and from the campus difficult and inconvenient for students, staff, and visitors. Many students have had to spend hours in traffic due to the poor condition of the road, and this has affected their academic performance. Staff members have also experienced similar challenges, and this has impacted their productivity.”
