Osun approves new teacher retirement age

The Osun State Government has announced the immediate enforcement of a new retirement age and length of service for teachers within the state civil service, aiming to restore order across educational institutions.

In a circular issued by the State’s Head of Service, Ayanleye Aina, the approval underscores the government’s commitment to streamlining the education sector. The directive also mandates interested parties to adhere to specified guidelines to qualify for the revised retirement benefits.

Furthermore, the state government has instructed the Osun State Ministry of Finance and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to halt salary payments to teachers who have been benefiting from the new retirement age without fulfilling the requisite conditions.

The circular, referencing previous communications, emphasizes the necessity for compliance with established regulations. It states, “All those who have been enjoying the new retirement age and length of service without fulfilling the necessary prerequisites have, by this Circular, ceased to enjoy such benefits until their compliance with the extant Circulars.”

The document reinforces the importance of strict adherence to guidelines for any officer seeking to avail themselves of the updated retirement age and service length. Additionally, it mandates relevant government ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure widespread dissemination of the circular and strict adherence to its directives.

The Osun State Government’s decision reflects its commitment to enhancing efficiency and accountability within the education sector, while ensuring that retirement benefits are accessed in accordance with established criteria.
