Osun College Council chair decries Nigeria’s neglect of technical education

The Chairman of the Governing Council at Osun State College of Technology in Esa-Oke, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, criticized the Nigerian government’s lack of commitment to advancing technology education, emphasizing the disparity in attention between universities and polytechnics.

Odeyemi, accompanied by the Rector, Dr. Samson Adegoke, expressed concerns during a press briefing in Osogbo, highlighting the potential impact on the nation’s technological progress.

He said: “As much as governments at different levels continue to pay lip service to technology, we will be moving around the circle, and no matter how long you travel on the wrong route, there is no other solution than to turn back. We must know when to turn back and refocus our education

“In terms of advancing technology, a nation that is in a hurry to develop it’s technology as we claim in Nigeria should emphasize polytechnic education but the focus is somewhere else here.

“At Esa-Oke in Osun, we have Bluetooth Control Fan, a fan that can be controlled by Bluetooth or GSM.

We have a generator that is GSM controlled, an Electric Jack, a Bluetooth Control Fan, a Weight Control Wheel Barrow, Smart Home Automation, Biometric Attendance, an Rfid Smart Security Gate, a Programmable Load Shedding System With Remote Unit, Android a fan Control System, Access Restricted Integrated Power Monitoring And Control System, among others but there is no patronage.”
