Outgoing Bingham University VC urges leaders to prioritize academic mission

The outgoing Vice-Chancellor of Bingham University, Barnabas Qurix, PhD has urged leaders of tertiary institutions to prioritize their institution’s vision over personal gains.

Qurix emphasized the importance of staying focused on the entrusted responsibilities, emphasizing that leaders must have a clear vision and understanding of the path ahead.

“If you have nothing at stake except the vision and target you set for yourself, you will surely succeed, and I think this is something to watch out for,” he stated.

Attributing the university’s growth and successes to divine intervention, Qurix highlighted their ability to achieve remarkable results with limited resources.

He underscored the significance of teamwork and the need for non-interference from higher authorities in completing tasks and projects efficiently.

Reflecting on his own tenure, Qurix advised his successors to build on existing foundations while also contributing their innovations.

He shared his approach of completing unfinished projects inherited from his predecessor before initiating new endeavors.

Addressing financial challenges during his six-year term, Qurix disclosed clearing a substantial debt and overcoming infrastructure challenges, crediting divine grace and strategic financial management.

He urged the government and university authorities to invest in research as a means to generate income for sustained development.
