The Oyo State Government has cautioned students sitting for the ongoing National Examination Council (NECO) examinations against engaging in any form of malpractice, reiterating its commitment to maintaining academic integrity in public schools across the state.
The Chairman of the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission, Oladipo Olubukola, issued the warning during a two-day monitoring visit to several secondary schools in different zones of the state on Wednesday and Thursday. She said the visits were aimed at observing the conduct of the NECO examinations and ensuring compliance with established standards.
Olubukola urged both teachers and students to avoid shortcuts during the exams, warning that academic dishonesty could negatively affect their future educational pursuits.
“Students should focus on their studies, as this will support their academic progress and better position them for admission into their preferred universities,” she said.
She noted that the commission was working closely with relevant stakeholders to uphold academic standards and ensure that disciplinary action is taken against individuals involved in malpractice.
“The government of Governor Seyi Makinde has zero tolerance for examination malpractices,” she said.
Olubukola added that the state’s education authorities were paying close attention to the examination process and emphasised the importance of discipline and transparency.
During the monitoring exercise, schools visited included Ibadan Grammar School, St. Anne’s School, Olubi Memorial Grammar School, and Saint Luke’s College, all located in Ibadan.
Speaking during the visit, the Principal of Ibadan Grammar School, Ogunleye Biodun, expressed appreciation to the state government for prioritising education and providing support to public schools.
The NECO examinations are being conducted nationwide, with education officials across various states monitoring compliance with examination protocols.
