Oyo reschedules teachers’ recruitment interview to honour Isese Day celebration

The Oyo State government has announced a slight adjustment to its interview timetable for teachers’ recruitment, in deference to the celebration of Isese Day, a significant cultural event in the region.

The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) initially planned to hold the interviews on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. However, this date coincides with Isese Day, a public holiday dedicated to honouring the indigenous Yoruba culture and traditions.

Isese Day, celebrated annually on August 20, is a day of profound cultural importance, particularly for adherents of the Yoruba traditional religion. It underscores the preservation and appreciation of Yoruba heritage.

In response to the cultural significance of the day, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Nureni Adeniran, swiftly moved to reschedule the interviews. In an official statement released on Tuesday, Adeniran highlighted the necessity of respecting cultural practices while ensuring all candidates have equal opportunities to participate in the final recruitment stage.

“In light of this observation, the affected LGAs whose interviews were originally slated for Tuesday, August 20, 2024, have been rescheduled to Monday, August 26, 2024,” Adeniran stated.

The local government areas affected by this rescheduling include Saki West, Saki East, Irepo, Oriire, Olorunsogo, Orelope, Ogbomoso North, and Ogbomoso South. Adeniran called for strict compliance with the new timetable and noted that the decision has been well-received by stakeholders, who appreciate the sensitivity and responsiveness demonstrated by the educational authorities.

Below is the revised timetable for the interviews:

Wednesday, August 14, 2024: Egbeda and Atisbo

Thursday, August 15, 2024: Akinyele, Afijio, and Ibarapa Central Local Government Areas.
