PDP condemns alleged humiliation of teachers by SUBEB chairman, demands public apology

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has condemned what it described as a shameful and demeaning act by the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWASUBEB), Professor Raheem Adaramaja, who allegedly forced teachers — including the Vice Principal — to sweep the school compound in the presence of students during an inspection visit to Government Day Secondary School, Amule, on Monday.

Eyewitnesses claimed that Adaramaja, reportedly acting on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s directive, accused the teachers of keeping an untidy environment and compelled them to pick up litters despite explanations that the students had just returned from break.

In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, and made available to Just Event Online TV, the PDP described the incident as an abuse of office and a public humiliation of hardworking teachers who continue to perform their duties under harsh conditions.

The party questioned whether such treatment has now become the new standard for the teaching profession in Kwara, especially coming from a Professor who was once a teacher himself. “To have a Professor strip teachers of their dignity and compel them to perform menial tasks before their students is both disgraceful and unacceptable,” the statement read.

The opposition party further described the act as a reflection of “arrogance, insensitivity, and moral bankruptcy” allegedly characteristic of the AbdulRazaq-led administration. It said those who came to power under the Otoge mantra promising liberation have now turned into “power-drunk oppressors” who humiliate the same workers they have failed to support or motivate. The PDP lamented that after six years in office, the government has continued to neglect teachers, leaving schools dilapidated while students study under trees.

The PDP called on the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) to defend its members and ensure that such humiliation never happens again. It demanded an unreserved public apology from Professor Adaramaja to the teachers of Government Day Secondary School, Amule, and the entire teaching community in Kwara State.

The party also urged Governor AbdulRazaq to publicly condemn the action and sanction the SUBEB Chairman if the report is true, to safeguard the dignity of civil servants in the state.
