The Kaduna State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating online that its personnel were responsible for the death of an Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) graduate while allegedly driving against traffic.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 1, the Command described the claim — published by an online blog — as “false and misleading,” insisting that the incident occurred under entirely different circumstances.
According to the police, the event happened on August 29, 2025, when Mobile Police Force (MOPOL) officers, who were on escort duty outside the state, stopped at a junction along Sultan Road by Garkuwa Hospital in Kaduna.
“Suddenly, a speeding motorcyclist rammed into the police vehicle from behind. The passenger he was carrying fell and became unconscious, while the rider immediately fled the scene,” the statement explained.
The police added that, contrary to allegations of negligence, the officers rushed the victim to hospital and formally reported themselves at the station, providing their identities and written statements. Unfortunately, the victim later died while receiving treatment.
The Command noted that the MOPOL personnel involved have since been directed to report back for further investigation, stressing that due process is being followed.
It further appealed to members of the public with credible information on the identity or whereabouts of the fleeing motorcyclist to come forward to aid the investigation.
“The Command therefore urges the public to disregard the false and misleading information being circulated, as investigations are ongoing to unravel the full circumstances of the incident,” the statement concluded.
