Protesting UNILAG students give school 48hours to reverse new fees

Protesting students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have given the school’s management a 48-hour ultimatum to reverse the new tuition fees approved by the school.

According to Edugist correspondent who visited the scenes of the protests where the students stood their ground and demanded a reversal of the new approved fees on Wednesday amidst heavy security presence.

“We are giving the school 48 hours to totally reverse the new fees,” one of the protesters told Edugist.

“They have 48 hours to respond to our request as the increment is way over board.”

One of the protesting students told Edugist that the protest would continue, if the fees are not reversed within the stipulated time frame.

“We only called off the protest to re-converge in 48 hours if the school does not completely reverse the new increment,” he said.

Another student told Edugist that the protest action was meant to be a warning protest until police officers came to disperse them with guns and tear gas.

“What we held this morning was meant to be a warning protest until the police attacked and arrested some of us,” the student said.

“We intend to first warn the school that we were not pleased with the new policy and then we would come back after 48 hours if they do not reverse the policy.”

Edugist understands that the students had decided to call off the protest on Wednesday afternoon after they were attacked by police officers who shot at them and also arrested some of them.
