The Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, has been commended by the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Certificate Racketeering for its outstanding commitment to transparency, innovation, and digital integrity in academic administration.
The commendation came on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, during the Committee’s working visit to the University Management at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building. The delegation, led by Chairman Hon. Abubakar H. Fulata, included Hon. Iliyasu Aliyin, Hon. Yusuf Kure, Hon. Rabiu Yusuf, Esq., Hon. K. Abdul-Hakeem, Hon. Adams Ogene, and Hon. Faud K. Laguda.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi, noted that LASU has become Nigeria’s most digitalised university, with all processes—admission, registration, assessment, and certificate issuance—fully automated.
“LASU’s certificates carry a unique QR code for instant verification anywhere in the world. This ensures authenticity and makes forgery or manipulation practically impossible,” she said, adding that the University’s 2023–2025 accreditation rounds achieved a 98% success rate in line with best global standards.
Also speaking, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin, highlighted LASU’s integration of the National Identification Number (NIN) in student registration and its linkage with the NYSC portal as part of a multi-layered verification framework. “Every record is forensically verified both online and onsite. LASU competes globally in certificate credibility,” he said.
The University Registrar, Mr Emmanuel A. Fanu, reaffirmed LASU’s zero-tolerance stance on fraud, noting that all reported infractions are addressed through appropriate disciplinary and legal channels to protect the institution’s reputation.
In response, the Committee members praised LASU’s digital systems and integrity-driven culture, describing the University as “a benchmark for transparency and a model for other Nigerian tertiary institutions.” Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Abubakar Fulata, lauded the University’s leadership for embracing technology to secure its academic processes and reaffirmed the House’s commitment to collaborating with LASU in eliminating certificate racketeering nationwide.
To demonstrate confidence in LASU’s digital system, the Committee conducted a live verification test of a sample certificate through the institution’s QR authentication platform, which returned instant confirmation of authenticity.
The Vice-Chancellor, through her representative, pledged LASU’s continued partnership with the National Assembly in strengthening the integrity and global recognition of Nigerian academic certificates.
