Rivers state collaborates with African School of Economics to launch sports education initiative

In a promising development for the advancement of sports education, the Rivers State government has initiated discussions with the renowned Pan-African institution, the African School of Economics (ASE), to establish a robust sports education programme within the state.

The announcement came to light during a meeting held yesterday, where representatives from the Ministry of Sports engaged in discussions with ASE.

The meeting took place at the Port Harcourt Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA) office.

After the meeting concluded, Chris Green, the commissioner for eports, spoke with reporters to provide insights into this exciting collaboration.

Green emphasised the potential impact of introducing sports education to the state, highlighting its potential to spur further development.

He articulated, “The prospect of the university coming to Rivers State to establish the headquarters for sports education is a testament to the safety and investment potential of our state. This initiative, stemming from the Chamber of Commerce, is expected to catalyse a wave of development, ultimately elevating the GDP of Rivers State to new heights, measured in billions of US Dollars.”

He further underscored the intrinsic relationship between sports and education, stating, “Through sports, we can foster holistic development across the state, and through education, we can achieve the same. Governor Siminialayi Fubara has diligently cultivated an environment conducive to business growth in Rivers State, and the prospects for the thriving of sports and education here are indeed promising.”

Obinna Obiwuru, the director of communication at ASE, elucidated the partnership’s goals, indicating the university’s intent to establish the headquarters for sports education in Rivers. This collaboration holds the potential to revolutionise sports education in the region, providing a valuable platform for athletes and students alike.
