Road to Nigeria’s education revamp as president-elect receives certificate of return

As Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the president-elect of the federal republic of Nigeria, receives the certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following his proclamation as winner of Nigeria’s 2023 general elections, it is imperative to remind his administration of its promises to revamp Nigeria’s education sector.

  • Institution of education loans and credits for higher education students
  • Total eradication of industrial strike actions in public institutions of learning
  • Autonomy of universities to self-govern and upgrade syllabuses, among others
  • Halt sales of handout materials in public institutions of learning and encourage original lecturer materials
  • Reintroduction of Nigeria history to school curriculum
  • Mandate indigenous language subjects for all students throughout secondary school
  • Establish special education fund responsible for funding university education through the sale of bonds
  • Establish special force to tackle problem of out-of-school children
