RSU receives full accreditation for all 24 programmes submitted to NUC

In a media briefing held at the Rivers State University (RSU) in Port Harcourt, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Nlerum Okogbule, announced that the institution has obtained full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for all 24 programmes that were submitted for accreditation. The accreditation exercise was conducted in November/December 2022 and the RSU scored a perfect 100 percent in the evaluation.

Prof Okogbule listed some of the programmes that received full accreditation, including Architecture, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, History and Diplomatic Studies, Medicine and Surgery, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Mathematics, Economics, Mass Communication, and Political Science, among others. This achievement is a testament to the quality of education offered by the RSU and its commitment to academic excellence.

In addition to this, Prof Okogbule also announced that academic activities have commenced at the various satellite campuses of the RSU located in Ahoada, Emuoha, and Etche. He commended Governor Nyesom Wike for his vision in approving the locations of the satellite campuses, which will bring development to the communities and their neighbors.

The Vice Chancellor assured students that security measures will be put in place to forestall any untoward incidents. He stated that the RSU is in touch with the commissioner of police and security agencies to ensure regular patrols in these areas. The completed police formations near the Etche, Ahoada, and Emuoha campuses will also boost the internal security arrangements put in place by the university management in partnership with the communities to ensure the safety of both staff and students.

Prof Okogbule emphasised the importance of security consciousness among students and urged them to avoid engaging in activities that could attract hoodlums. He stated that security is everybody’s business and called for the collective efforts of all stakeholders to maintain a safe and secure learning environment.

Overall, the RSU’s achievement of full accreditation for all 24 programmes submitted to the NUC is a significant milestone in its pursuit of academic excellence, and the opening of satellite campuses in various parts of the state will provide more opportunities for students to access quality education.
