SciVal Ranks UNILORIN Institution with Highest Number of Researches

The Department of Industrial Chemistry, University of Ilorin, has emerged the academic unit of the institution with the highest number of research publications between 2016 and 2019.

This was disclosed in a report published by a renowned academic and research review platform, SciVal.

The report showed three researchers from the Department produced 90 out of 500 research profiles released in the period under review.

The contributions of three major scholars in the institution gave the Department of Industrial Chemistry an edge over others.

The three scholars are the Dean, Faculty of Physical Sciences, Prof. Folahan Amoo Adekola; Head of the Department, Prof. Alafara Abdullahi Baba; and Prof. Gabriel Ademola Olatunji, the immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

Adekola had 38 of the total contributions from the department, Alafara and Olatunji contributed 26 stimulating publications each.

Other Departments with considerable number of publications, according to SciVal, are Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering with 55 and 46 publications.

SciVal also noted that UNILORIN in all produced 14 researchers who published at least 20 researches in highly-rated journals across the world despite numerous challenges facing research and development in Nigeria.

Individually, Prof. Lawrence Aderemi Olatunji of the Department of Physiology, College of Health Sciences, had the highest with 42 research publications in Scopus based journals.

Dr. Faruk Nasir of the Department of Telecommunication had 32 publications while Prof. Adeniyi Adewale of the Department of Chemical Engineering had 31 publications.

Other researchers who published at least 20 papers in high-rated journals are Kolawole Wahab (Medicine, 27); K. D. Adeyemi (Animal Production, 27); Adekunle Adeleke (Mechanical Engineering, 24); Joshua Ighalo (Chemical Engineering,24); Rasheedat Mahamood (Mechanical Engineering, 22); Samson Oyeyinka (Food Science, 21); Adedibu Tella (Chemistry, 20); Olufemi Desalu (Medical Microbiology, 20).
