The Lagos State Government has unveiled new mobile learning and teaching devices for secondary school students and teachers.

The devices are expected to revamp the teaching process and improve schooling standards.

Speaking at the unveiling event held on Tuesday, 31st January, 2023 at NECA House, Alausa, Ikeja, the Secretary to the Government, Folasade Jaji, who represented the Governor, Babajide Sanwoolu said the State Government was on track to accelerate its Education and Technology Agenda aimed at grooming smart learners with 21st Century skills.

Jaji said Lagos State Government has made a strong departure from the previous practice of subjecting teachers to prepare schemes of work manually and planning lessons with less purposeful techniques.

“We took a holistic look at the curriculum in use in the state and re-engineered the contents to meet the demands of Modern Education without veering off the national benchmark provided by the Nigerian Education Research and Development Council (NERDC).

“The Schemes of work, which is an instrument for teachers and instructors to outline what they will teach during an academic term or period was reviewed by the Lagos State Ministry of Education to promote deep learning and for learners to take ownership of knowledge acquisition through strategies that reflect 21st Century skills and international best practices”, she said.

She hinted that teachers have started deploying the new scheme of work and the feedback so far shows that the new document has provided additional resources for better teaching and learning.

In her remarks, the Commissioner for Education, Folasade Adefisayo said the scheme of work, now made available digitally, will give teachers room to research and plan optimal teamwork.

Adefisayo commended all those that partnered with the Ministry on the milestone achievements, especially the Ministry of Science and Technology.

“I appreciate the support of the Commissioner for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the commitment of the Curriculum Services Department and the contributions of subject teachers, non-governmental associations and technical partners on the project”, the Commissioner stated.

Also at the event was the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hakeem Fahm who remarked on the collaboration between the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education. While thanking both ministries for birthing a productive partnership, he urged stakeholders to take advantage of the benefits of digital skills as education without technology cannot guarantee effective teaching and learning in the 21st Century.

Earlier, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Abayomi Abolaji said Government’s investment in the education sector has started yielding positive results in the past few years. Our collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology has made our classrooms become smarter, our teachers more tech-savvy and students to be better prepared for the future.
