Sony Music, WARIF partner to address sexual violation in schools

SONY Music has joined forces with the Women at Risk International Foundation (WARIF) to address sexual violence in schools.

According to a statement released by the organisation, the collaborative effort aims to empower girls in senior secondary schools, aged 13-16, by equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to combat sexual and gender-based violence.

The statement unveiled that the WARIF Educational School Programme will be implemented in five senior secondary schools across Lagos State and three senior secondary schools in Ogun State.

“The programme also has plans for future expansion into other regions of Nigeria, the statement read.

It added, “The initiative will train a total of 600 students, and WARIF will provide educational materials, teacher training, and comprehensive information on how to appropriately respond to and prevent sexual and gender-based violence.”

In addition, the programme will incorporate a groundbreaking “peer-to-peer” outreach component, allowing students to engage with their peers and communities while supervised, enabling them to share what they have learned.

This partnership between SONY Music and WARIF represents a significant stride in combating sexual violence and promoting gender equality in Nigerian secondary schools.

WARIF firmly believes that by granting young girls access to quality education and empowering them with knowledge and skills, they can become catalysts for change within their communities and beyond.
