Teachers charged to acquire digital skills for global competitiveness

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria has charged the newly inducted teachers to acquire more knowledge on digital technology, in other to be able to compete with their counterparts globally.

The Registrar/Chief Executive of the TRCN, Prof. Josiah Ajiboye, gave the charge while speaking at the second induction ceremony for the new professional teachers at the Adeyemi Federal University of Education Ondo town, Ondo State, on Wednesday.

A total of 1,460 holders of National Certificate in Education bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education of the institution were indicted at the ceremony.

Describing teaching as lucrative, noble, and one of the professions that is actively involved in nation-building, the TRCN boss, admonished the inductees to seek constant self-improvement by developing their skills in the use of Information Communication  Technology.

According to him, there were several opportunities available to teachers in Africa and other countries of the world. He disclosed that currently, more than 45 million teachers are needed globally. He, therefore, admonished the inductees to use the knowledge acquired during the training to improve their lots.

Ajiboye said, “Take the certificate given to you to any part of the world, you are going to be recognized.

With our certificate and license given to you, you are free to practice the profession in any part of the globe.”

Earlier in his address of welcome, the Acting Vice- Chancellor, Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo, Dr. Samuel Akintunde, described the occasion as a milestone, and a testament to the TRCN’s commitment to excellence, professionalism, and dedication to the improvement of the teaching profession.

While congratulating the inductees, the acting VC, urged them to use the knowledge acquired during their training, to mentor, guide and nurture learners, that would be under their tutelage.
Dr. Akintunde, also charged them to uphold the ethics of the teaching profession, by “exhibiting integrity, creativity, inclusivity and embrace continuous learning for improves services”.

Also in her address, the Acting Registrar of the institution, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede, urged the inductees to uphold the standard of the teaching profession, and to seek continuous knowledge acquisition by “attending professional development programmes within and outside the country”
