Governor Hope Uzodimma has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming education in Imo State through technology and innovation, following the official recognition of the University of Innovation, Science and Technology, Omumma by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Speaking in Abuja after receiving the institution’s Certificate of Recognition from NUC Executive Secretary, Abdullahi Ribadu, Governor Uzodimma described the milestone as a major step toward expanding access to quality tertiary education for Imo youths and Nigerians at large.
“It is an honour and moment of appreciation to the management and staff of NUC in recognising this university. It is part of our quest to broaden education and create wider access for our youth population,” he said.

He explained that the university would drive digital skills development, science, and technological innovation, empowering graduates to become job creators rather than job seekers.
“This university will encourage digital skills innovation, science, and technology. Imo State wants our youths to be properly educated, to support the growth of our economy and quality itself. It will reduce the struggle of our young people to access tertiary education,” Uzodimma noted.

Governor Uzodimma also disclosed that the new university will collaborate with Imo Digital City and the University of California, Berkeley, which will serve as a mentoring partner in designing a practical, entrepreneurship-focused curriculum.
“Graduates here will come out as employers and job creators as the focus is on entrepreneurship and innovation,” he added.

On his part, NUC Executive Secretary Abdullahi Ribadu commended the Imo State Government for its continued investment in higher education, describing the new institution as a bold statement of commitment to youth empowerment and knowledge-driven development.
“We are committed to ensuring that tertiary education meets the highest standards in Nigeria. The institution is a bold step in the governor’s commitment to empowering youths and promoting knowledge-driven development,” Mr Ribadu said.
