The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) says its new multidisciplinary research laboratories will empower Nigerian researchers to carry out advanced studies entirely within the country—eliminating the costly and time-consuming practice of sending samples abroad for analysis.
Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono, disclosed this in Abuja yesterday while receiving the leadership of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), led by its President, Arc. Mobolaji Adeniyi. He said six state-of-the-art laboratories are being established nationwide, with four already under construction in Port Harcourt, Kano, Abuja, and Lagos, while two more will commence before the end of the year.
Echono, a former 28th President of the Institute, also pledged to mobilise support for furnishing the NIA’s Resource and Exhibition Centre currently under construction, in response to the president’s request. In addition, he announced a yearly prize at the Institute’s Architecture Annual Awards and sponsorship for the publication of its journal.
The TETFund boss revealed that the agency is set to commission iconic projects across the country, with four scheduled for unveiling in Kano and Osun states before the end of the month.
“The biggest observation that was made when I came in here is the fact that we were dotting our campuses with all sorts of blocks, and we’re now transiting to iconic buildings,” Echono said.
