Three exceptional students from Lagos State will represent Nigeria at the prestigious Sakura Science Programme in Tokyo, Japan, from August 17 to 23, 2025.
Their selection follows Lagos State’s outstanding performance at the 2024 National Junior Engineers, Technicians, and Scientists (JETS) Competition, where the state clinched 26 trophies and 26 medals to emerge overall champion.
The students — Babalola David from Brainfield College, Adesoji Tolulope, and Moses Adeseye from Lagos State Senior Model College, Meiran — will join other young talents from across the globe to explore Japan’s cutting-edge science, technology, and culture.
The Japan Science and Technology Agency will sponsor their participation, covering international flights, accommodation, feeding, and overseas travel insurance.
Speaking at the pre-departure meeting, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, urged them to be worthy ambassadors of Nigeria and Africa.
“This international recognition is a result of your impressive performance at the national level. The State Government’s commitment to revamping education in Lagos is evident, with public schools growing in standard and capacity, drawing local and international attention,” she said.
