President Bola Tinubu has commissioned seven newly completed infrastructure projects at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), as part of the institution’s 40th convocation ceremony.

The projects, spanning various faculties and departments, include the Faculty of Social Sciences Building; a block of four lecture halls for the Faculties of Social and Management Sciences; the Department of English Drama Studio in the Faculty of Arts; and the renovated Blocks 1–10. Others are the upgraded Department of Geography and Environmental Management Building, the refurbished UNILORIN Innovation Hub, and the newly completed Technical Entrepreneurship Centre Road.

Represented by the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Prof. Adenike Oladiji, President Tinubu described the projects as a reflection of his administration’s dedication to advancing education, innovation, and sustainable development across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.

“These facilities symbolise our collective pursuit of progress and innovation,” Tinubu said. “I urge Nigerians to embrace the Renewed Hope Agenda as we continue to build an education system that inspires creativity, productivity, and national growth.”

He further called on the university’s management to prioritise the upkeep and sustainability of the newly inaugurated structures, stressing that education remains a cornerstone of his administration’s development agenda.

“Proper maintenance of these projects will ensure their lasting impact on future generations,” he added. “They represent the true essence of a university, one that serves humanity and drives transformation.”

In his goodwill message, the Chancellor of the University and Emir of Katsina, Alhaji (Dr) Abdulmumin Usman, represented by the Waziri of Katsina, Senator Ibrahim Idah, applauded the institution for its consistent pursuit of excellence, innovation, and skill-based learning.

He noted that the newly commissioned projects would further enhance teaching, research, and entrepreneurship, helping students acquire the skills necessary for a competitive global economy.

“UNILORIN continues to stand as a model of discipline and productivity. Its focus on innovation and entrepreneurship reflects the kind of future we envision for Nigerian youths,” the Emir said.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole (SAN), expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for supporting the university’s drive toward infrastructural and academic advancement.

He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to continuous improvement, saying, “We will continue to strengthen the university’s legacy of excellence and ensure that UNILORIN remains a beacon of quality education in Nigeria.”

Dignitaries present at the inauguration included the university’s Pro-Chancellor, Surveyor Abiodun Jacob Aluko, principal officers, members of the academic community, and guests from across the country.

The commissioning formed part of the week-long events celebrating UNILORIN’s 40th convocation, a milestone that underscores the university’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s most stable, disciplined, and academically vibrant institutions.
