In a strong show of support for the Nigerian student community, the Minister of Interior, Hon. (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has described the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a “Pro-Student, Pro-Educational” government.

He made this declaration today at the 2025 National Executive Council Inauguration Ceremony and Official Investiture of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), held in Abuja.

Addressing the newly inaugurated leadership of NANS, led by its National President, Comrade Olushola Oladoja, the Minister emphasized the importance of intellectual engagement over physical confrontation.

He urged the student leaders to embrace strategic advocacy in their quest to meet the aspirations of Nigerian students, both at home and abroad.

“I charge you to prioritise intellectual struggle over physical struggle in the realisation of the mandate of office where the yearnings of students — both within the country and in the diaspora — can be met,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo advised.

Highlighting the achievements of the Renewed Hope agenda, the Minister pointed to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) as a transformative initiative that reflects the administration’s commitment to education and youth development.

“The Renewed Hope government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) is a Pro-Student, Pro-Educational administration,” he stated. “Everyone can attest to it with the NELFund initiative that has significantly changed the story of students across various tertiary institutions in the country through an opportunity to access zero-interest loans for study and upkeep.”

The Minister’s remarks come at a pivotal moment for student leadership in Nigeria, as the new NANS executives take on the responsibility of representing millions of students across the nation. The government’s clear stance on supporting education and student welfare has been welcomed as a positive signal for future collaboration.
