Two persons were confirmed dead and two others abducted following a violent clash between rival cult groups on the night of June 19, 2025, near Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The attack, which occurred around Total Junction and Tipper Junction, sent shockwaves through the student community and local residents as gunmen on a motorcycle and a black Lexus SUV without a license plate opened fire indiscriminately.
According to Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the incident was cult-related, and security operatives swiftly took control of the area. “The Police operatives led by the Area Commander Aguata, complemented by the Joint Security Force comprising the Army, Navy, Civil Defence and Vigilante operatives, have taken over the scene of the alleged cult-related shooting by 8:40pm,” he said.
He added: “Two victims, including a lady who is currently receiving treatment in a hospital, were rescued. Sadly, the incident recorded the death of two persons and the alleged abduction of two others.”
Eyewitnesses told the police that the attackers began shooting at Total Junction before abducting two people at Tipper Junction and fleeing the scene. Four persons, including the injured lady, were wounded during the attack.
The police have urged residents to remain calm, assuring them that investigations are ongoing. “We are already acting on some clues from the scene and leveraging on necessary information from eyewitnesses for the possible arrest of the hoodlums behind the incident,” Ikenga stated.
