The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Aisha Garba, has met with the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to discuss strategic initiatives aimed at improving educational access and enhancing security in Nigerian schools.

The meeting, which focused on safeguarding learning environments, particularly in vulnerable regions, underscored the urgent need for collaboration between UBEC and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) to address these critical issues.

A statement by the Head of Public Relations and Protocol of UBEC, Mr. David Apeh, highlighted the significance of the engagement, noting that it emphasized the intersection between education and national security. “This collaboration underscores the government’s commitment to fostering a secure and inclusive learning environment as part of its broader agenda to strengthen the nation’s educational framework,” the statement read.

Earlier, Aisha Garba had pledged to engage key stakeholders to dismantle barriers to education and ensure inclusive learning opportunities for children across the six geopolitical regions. She reaffirmed UBEC’s commitment to working with partners to drive meaningful reforms in basic education. “My goal is to deliver on this mandate which includes strengthening collaboration, partnerships, and institutional learning for effective service delivery,” she said.

Garba further stressed the need for a holistic approach to tackling education challenges, assuring that efforts would focus on increasing access, improving quality, and creating safe learning environments across Nigeria. “Together, we will work to increase access, improve quality, provide conducive and safe learning environments, supply adequate teaching and learning materials, and adopt the concept of ‘best fit’ in addressing specific basic education challenges, state by state and region by region,” she added.

The partnership between UBEC and ONSA signals a renewed government effort to secure schools and promote equitable education, reinforcing the commitment to creating a safer and more inclusive learning environment for Nigerian children.
